Soft! 2021

In collaboration with the Textile Museum Tilburg, Lola developed a series of new wall objects for the Soft! exposition at Rademakers Gallery. Because of Covid it was not possible to travel and after being alone in the Netherlands for a year and a half, she found inspiration for the collection in the region where she grew up as a teenager.

Materials used:

  • Eco cotton, recyled polyester, recycled lurex, mercerized cotton, elirex, filling yarn

The Textile Museum gave her the opportunity to work with the industrial knitting machine. During the making process, she not only focused on the images, but also especially on the technique in which the work was performed. During this process she searched for methods to apply computer-aided techniques in new ways. The design is designed in different layers. In addition, she pushed the machine using many different and complex yarns, even applying manual shifts during the knitting of images to get around the maximum amount of colors. An unorthodox method of using this industrial machine to make autonomous work. Lola van Praag combines the manual with the mechanical.

“During this process she searched for methods to apply computer-aided techniques in new ways.”
